Welcome to SLCF

The SLCF was established in November 1988 by members of the parish of St Lawrence’s Catholic Church in Sidcup. The Charity is an expression of genuine concern for the material and spiritual well-being of those living in the borough and our wider local community.

SLCF Prayer

Help us to create a community
Where justice and peace may flourish.
Be with us Lord, lest we labour in vain

The fund aims principally to:

  • Relieve poverty and distress for individuals and families
  • Provide relief or respite for carers and their dependents
  • Access advice and counselling for those in need
  • Facilitate services for young people

The Charity does not seek to interfere with what other agencies are doing but rather to work with and through existing organisations to support those in our community who are in need.

The support the fund can offer need not necessarily be through direct financial assistance. It may involve help of a more practical kind for individuals or organisations.

Funding Sources

The fund depends on local support. In other words – the generosity of people like YOU. Regular donations by standing order or otherwise help in the planning of expenditure. Obviously we are very pleased to accept single donations and also bequests from any Will. If you are an income tax payer, we can reclaim tax on your donations through Gift Aid. Perhaps you may be able to consider making a grant or bequest? If so it would be greatly valued.

The fund issues an annual report on its activities, giving full details of income and expenditure.

How is the fund distributed?

The committee meets on a monthly basis to consider the requests which have been received from agencies or local organisations via the Welfare Officer. Support and assistance is given to families and individuals in the purchase of basic household furniture and white goods.

Referral process:

In order to apply for a grant we require a formal letter / email  of referral from a social worker, doctor or school which includes:

– a brief outline as to why the family needs our help

– the number of adults and children in the family

– a name, address and a contact number (the client must be local to the Borough of Bexley)

– a list of items needed in order of priority as we are a small charity so it is unlikely we can provide everything.
